Shaved Golden Retriever

This is a Golden Retriever that was very matted. She needed to have her hair shaved off so I used an Andis # 7 f blade and started just behind the Occipital bone on top of the head. I shaved the entire body but left the legs and tail. I used scissors to trim the feathering's of the front legs and trimmed the tail so as to not leave it to bushy.
This haircut is excellent for active Golden's that like to jump in water and roll in dirt. I'm thinking that was why she was so matted. So now Daisy can play and her owners can enjoy a cleaner house.

love the look, perfect for Summer! The hair on golden's seems to always get matted when they are active so this looks like a pefect solution :) thanks for sharing

I understand if the dog was matted but this is not an acceptable haircut on a golden otherwise. They have a double coat that will be ruined and most likly not grow back right after being shaved. Try brushing your dogs after they go swiming instead of leaving them to get matted

Hey dog groomer for 8 years - This was a request from the owner and perfectly acceptable. Dog hair grows back, it's just a fact. If for some reason the dog's hair doesn't grow back after a clip down, it is most likely there is a health issue that was uncovered. Clipping hair has nothing to do with hair follicle regrowth. I have clipped many Golden Retrievers in my 17 years of grooming and have never had a problem. I agree with you that owners should brush their pet's so they don't become matted, however sometimes shaving is a must. I will never de-mat a bad coat for the sake of breed standards.

another groomer, I just shaved down a golden retriever and I and the owners think she looks lovely, she was very badly matted. While it is true that they look much sweeter in their natural coat, if for some reason they accumulate a lot of matting, it is the only humane option for grooming. btw..she looks beautiful.

I groom as well and I have a golden retriever that I have shaved with both a 5 and a 7, and even once with a reverse 3. Has since grown back as full and fluffy as ever.

Rocksss - Maybe so, but this dog was so matted it would have been inhuman to put the dog through intence de-matting.
