Grooming The American Eskimo Dog

The American Eskimo is a beautiful, snowy white Spitz-type dog. They are a fairly healthy breed, although they can have eye and tear duct problems. Wiping the eyes with a soft cotton gauge can help keep the eye area nice and white. The American Eskimo is an average shedder, but brushing two to four times a week using slicker and pin brushes followed by a wide & standard steel comb, this is necessary to prevent mats and tangles. When bathing, be sure to first brush out any tangles and use a mild shampoo. A conditioner can help release the shedding undercoat, making it easier for you to brush.
Full Grooming by a professional should be every 8 weeks. The feet should have a round appearance, this is done by scissoring the stray hairs around the foot, and even with the pads underneath. Toenails are trimmed and thinning shears can be used to remove stray hairs from the feet up to the hock joint. Ears are cleaned and hair inside the ear canal is pucked. The FURminator Treatment is highly suggested, ask your groomer if they offer it. I do and the owners love it. All and all, the American Eskimo should look very natural.

Some owner like a nice tidy style. So here is Snowball, she is sporting a lion clip. This is a great look on her. See, she looks so happy with her new hair do and it feels great too.

Make You Own Wobble Board for Agility
What's a wobble board? It is a board that helps dogs learn to trust the movement of the teeter. To make your own you will need:
- A 3-foot by 3-feet 1/2-inch thick piece of plywood
- Some duct tape
- A tennis ball
Assemble: Use duct tape to secure the tennis ball to the center of the underside of the board. That's it! A wobble board.
This helps the dog with the unstable flat surface found on the teeter. The dog will learn to balance as he jumps to the wobble board.
