This is Courage, a Cairn Terrier. The shaggy appearance is how a Cairn is to look. This type of coat actually takes quite a bit of care. If neglected, the coat soon becomes a matted mess, so brushing it out several times a week is necessary for a well groomed look. Begin brushing with a slicker brush followed by a greyhound comb. Once all the tangles are out, bathe the dog with a mild shampoo, I like to use Pop's Organic Shampoo. Brush the coat while it drying. Trim around the eyes and ears with scissors. This dog is not hand stripped so I do use a blade on the body. The tail is trimmed in the shape of a carrot and the nails are clipped.
