Natura Pet Expands Voluntary Recall of Dry Pet Foods Due to Possible Health Risk

FREMONT, NEBRASKA, April 19, 2013 –Natura Pet Products is voluntarily expanding its March 29, 2013 recall of dry pet foods because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The expanded recall now includes all dry pet food products and treats with expiration dates prior to and including March 24, 2014. Please see the table below for details of affected products.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.

Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed

the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

Sampling conducted by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and the Georgia Department of Agriculture confirmed the presence of Salmonella in additional dry pet food and a cat pet treat. In an abundance of caution, Natura is also recalling product made in the surrounding timeframe. This action affects dry pet foods and treats only; no canned wet food or biscuits are affected by this announcement.

The affected products are sold through veterinary clinics and select pet specialty retailers nationwide and in Canada, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, and Costa Rica, as well as

online.

Dogs that Swim and Coat Care

Not all dogs love to swim, but the one's that do really enjoy it.

Swimming is a great way to exercise your dogs.  It helps to tone the muscles, release stress and it's fun.  But when it comes to their coat care, that's another story.  The type of water they are swimming in can and will wreck a beautiful coat in several ways.

Pool Dogs
Chlorine dries out skin and hair and that leads to dry, itchy skin and a dry, dull, brittle coat.  Because the chemicals in the pool water strip the skin and coat of their natural oils, you need to use a coat conditioner before your dog enters the water.  You can help conditioners that contain sunscreen too.  After your dog comes out of the pool, rinse his coat thoroughly with cool water.  This will wash away the chemicals that are present in your pool water.  Towel dry and you can use a finishing spray that groomers use to leave in the coat.  Ask you groomer about conditioners to use.
These steps will help you pool dog to maintain his pretty coat.  For extra protection for the skin, add an omega-3 fatty acid supplement to your dog's diet.

Lake and River Dogs
If you like to allow your dog to swim in lakes and rivers like I do, there are special steps to take.  First, never allow your dog to swim in stagnant, fowl smelling water.  Another one may be muddy lakes or rivers that crocodiles and alligators live in.  Still another would be downstream from any kind of industry with pollutants.
But for those lakes and rivers that fit the bill for splash time fun, pre-condition like for pool swimming and add ear drops to your dog's ears before entering the water.  After the swim, and full shampoo bath is required.  Clean the ears out by using a wash to and wipe dry.  Use a finishing spray to help restore coat luster and shine.

If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

In an effort to prevent the transmission of Salmonella from pets to family members and care givers, the FDA recommends that everyone follow appropriate pet food handling guidelines when feeding their pets. Problem with website Life's Abundance

Recently, Microsoft has issued an update of their Internet Explorer 10 to some of its users. This update is also included on some new PC's. It has come to our attention that customers using this updated browser were directed to a "Page Not Found" while trying to place an order or viewing certain pages on our web site.
Today we issued our own update to the Life's Abundance web site that will fix these problems. As with any major browser update like I.E. 10, sometimes web sites can have issues, although this only affected a small percentage of customers. None of the other major browsers (Firefox, Chrome or Safari) are experiencing problems.
If you are using the Internet Explorer 10 browser, please let us know if you find any issues while in the Business Center or when using any of the tools in the Business Center. You can use the Business Center feedback form to let us know if you experience any problems and we will have our I.T. team look at it immediately.
Thank you in advance for your support.

The Best Defense for Flea Prevention

Proper flea control must be directed at three seperate areas.  The indoor environment, the outdoor environment and the dog himself.

Most of the flea life cycle happens in the house and yard and not the dog's hair and skin.  If the house and yard are not treated, the flea problem will never go away no matter how hard you try.  Years ago I was sitting  outside on the sidewalk enjoying the sunny day when all of a sudden a flea jumped on my arm.  My dogs were playing in the yard and I wondered where the flea was from.  As I sat there I could see them in the grass as they were moving in for the bite.  I was horrifid, I have fleas I screamed.  Now my dogs had been scratching a little bit but I didn't think they had fleas.  I had some spray I use in the grooming shop so I treated the area with that until I could get Diatomaceous earth also known as D.E from the store.  You just sprinkle the areas in the yard where fleas congregate.

You can safely use the food grade DE in the house as well. Use on carpeting, pet bedding, blankets, pillows, toys.  Wash all your floors, by mopping with hot water and citrus oil available at home and garden centers. Village Harb Shop

Next your dog should be bathed in an organic shampoo that contains neem and lemongrass.  Apply to coat and let sit for 10 minuates before rinsing.
Rebathe in one week and repeat every week until gone.

Healthy, well groomed dogs rarely get fleas and if they do, fleas normally don't stay on your pet.  To give your dog the added protection he or she needs, I recommend a great food and the number one supplement for pets.
