Holistic Cat Food

The Evolution of the House Cat
Cats are unique in so many ways. It all started millions of years ago during their development. All cats, big and small, have common characteristics. Most cats purr, they don’t particularly like water and they love to run after their prey. All cats, big and small, are meat eaters. They are classified as obligate or true carnivores, which means their diet must consist of almost all meat to satisfy their specific and unique nutritional requirements. Their ancestors were desert animals, so they got most of their moisture or water from their prey. As a result, most modern cats lack the desire to drink water.

In Truth, Our Sweet House Cats are More Like Little Lions
That’s why Dr. Jane Bicks formulated Instinctive Choice. Instinctive Choice Premium Canned Food is formulated to provide your cat with a meal that is similar in nutrition and moisture to how a feline would feed in the wild. Modern science has proven that "nature knows best" when it comes to what your cat needs to thrive.

Why should you choose Instinctive Choice for your cat? Instinctive Choice Premium Canned Food is specially formulated to feed along with Life's Abundance Premium Dry Food, so your cat can get the benefits of both canned and dry foods. It’s not only what is in Instinctive Choice that makes it the ultimate canned cat food, it is what’s not in Instinctive Choice.

Agility for dogs

Dogs that are involved in agility need to be on these daily formula. Why? because this is what it protects.

Agility is a daily formula to help:

•Maintain healthy joint cartilage
•Maintain healthy connective tissue health
•Maintain production of healthy synovial fluid
Highlights of the nutrients contained in Agility:

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a natural source of organic sulfur. Sulfur is important for the maintenance of healthy joints, bones, ligaments and tendons.

Glucosamine helps promote joint flexibility and mobility.

Alfalfa and Yucca are antioxidant rich herbs that offer a strong defense against free radical damage, helping to maintain joint comfort and flexibility.

Boswellia, Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acids help maintain healthy joint function and support joint comfort.

Sea Mussels The natural nutritional components in sea mussels help to support healthy joint structure and function, as well as help enhance the action of Glucosamine.

What some are saying about Agility -

Hip Dysplasia
I live in Salisbury, MD where I take my three year old Kerry Blue Terrier to Cathies Groomer's for his monthly spa day. It was Cathies Groomer's who told about Agility. Kellen Blu has HD and has had it since early puppyhood at two years of age he was xrayed and we were told his left hip was at 75% and his right 45% HD. We had him on other supplement's for his hips but the yelping and pain kept getting worse. He has been on Agility for two months ... He has more mobility in his hips and less (discomfort). I am very impressed with your product and intend to spread the word … Many thanks from our family to yours. I would enclose a photo of Kellen Blu but not sure if you can receive it.

Michael said:
Back to Normal Again
I started to feed all 7 of my dogs your food and my oldest Shih Tzu was given your hip/joint supplement at the same time. His name is Harley he's 4 years old and experienced some tenderness in his rear left leg. He was not able to run in the yard with my other dogs which got him depressed. After approximately two months of eating your food and taking the supplements he's almost back to 100%. It's also made a difference in all my other sweet little babies who are extremely happy and very energetic.

Agility really works!
A customer of ours has a golden which had a hard time getting up the stairs. After only one week of taking Agility Clancy was able to climb the stairs and run around the yard. Agility is a must for older dogs!

Dog Rescues - GRIN

We are so pleased to bring you the news that The Dr. Jane’s HealthyPetNet Foundation has granted a financial award to Golden Rescue South Florida. This award will be used to help rescued Golden Retrievers receive the veterinary treatment they need and deserve.

The dedicated people at Golden Rescue South Florida truly have a heart of gold. They believe that all animals are part of a sacred creation and should never be treated as “commodities, things or garbage”. They are a can-do group of people and work tirelessly to improve the lives of Goldens and other rescued dogs.

One of the most admirable qualities of this rescue is their deep understanding and compassion for the dogs that they rescue. They realize the truly horrific and debilitating lives the majority of their goldens have experienced. The toll these experiences have taken on these animals can be devastating. Many have been pushed around from one terrible situation to another. Some have lived outdoors without adequate shelter and subjected to extreme cold or heat, while others have been housed in dark basements or relegated to crates for long periods of time. Many have never received proper training or veterinary care. And, rarely have these dogs received the attention of loving human companions and so they are often inadequately socialized. Basically, these unfortunate animals are scared, depressed or anxious. However, the dedicated staff of Golden Rescue never gives up on these beautiful souls. They know that with some care and extra attention, the resilient spirit of the Golden will overcome the hardships of the past and become a loving, loyal and joyful member of a family.

Founded in 2000, in their very first year, this rescue adopted out 28 Goldens. And, as of January 2009, 156 grateful dogs have thus far found loving, forever families. Golden Rescue does not have a facility that houses the dogs. Instead, they have a devoted group of foster families that nurture the rescues until they are adopted. The Goldens come to the rescue in several different ways. Many of them are given up by their owners who cannot provide the dogs with the attention they deserve or the medical treatment they need. For those who ask, the rescue stays in touch with former owners, sending them updates and even photos that reveal how the dogs are doing with their foster families. The rescue also receives Goldens from overflowing shelters, as well. All of the dogs that come into Golden Rescue receive proper medical attention, afterwhich they are vaccinated, spayed or neutered before they go to live with their foster families.

This is just one success story, which was taken from the Golden Rescue South Florida web site. “This is Kady (formerly Lady). We picked her up from you in Ft. Pierce about three years ago. What a gentle, loving Golden she is. Her mask is getting gray, but she's a youngster in all other ways. She had a lonely past and came from a broken home. Then she was given to someone who evidently paid little attention to her. We were told she climbed the chain link fence in that person's yard so she could roam. Now, she hates to go outside and would rather lounge in the house where the A/C is cool. She's been checking out the pool lately, knowing it's about time to have fun swimming.”

This wonderful organization has many heart-warming and inspiring rescue stories. By choosing to purchase Trilogy and HealthyPetNet products, you are directly supporting the work of our foundation, and we thank you for making this generous award to the Golden Rescue South Florida possible. Your continued patronage has made a direct impact on these rescued Goldens and also the lives of untold numbers of homeless animals cared for by other agencies, too.

If you wish to send additional support to our foundation, you may do so when placing an order online or by sending a personal check to The Dr. Jane’s HealthyPetNet Foundation, Inc. at P.O. Box 1425, Palm City, FL 34991. Even if you can only spare a dollar or two, you’ll be providing much needed aid to the organizations attempting to reverse the trend of abandonment in America.
Do you want to add money to your rescue group? then you need to go to www.pipschoice.com and contact Susan Potts, she will get you and your group plugged into the greatest networking business you can trust to help you with your pet rescue needs. please click HERE

Dog Supplement Recall - Advanced Cetyl M Joint Action Formula supplement for dogs

Dog Supplement Recall Response Products of Broken Bow, Neb., has issued a voluntary recall for its Advanced Cetyl M Joint Action Formula supplement for dogs due to concerns of salmonella contamination.
The affected products include 120-count bottles and 360-count bottle with lot numbers 1210903 and 0128010. The 120-count bottles were distributed nationwide from Jan. 8 to April 2, and the 360-count bottles were distributed nationwide from Feb. 11 to April 2. The lot number can be found directly above the bar code on the label.
Contaminated pet food or treats can cause infections in animals as well as people who handle the products. Pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some pets may have a decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pains. No illnesses have been reported, according to the company.

In a statement, Response Products said it issued the recall as a “precautionary measure” after learning that a component of the supplement’s beef flavoring called hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) had been recalled due to the potential for salmonella contamination. The HVP was provided by Basic Food Flavors of Las Vegas, and its facility recently tested positive for salmonella, according the company.

Multiple tests conducted in all stages of Response Products’ manufacturing process have come up negative for salmonella, according to the company. In addition, an independent laboratory tested samples from the recalled lots and a subsequent lot batch. Those tests also came back negative, Response Products reported.

Consumers are urged to contact Response Products or the place of purchase for further direction. Response Products may be reached at 1-877-266-9757, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CST

Dr. Jane Bicks, DVM

The Healthy Dog

Feature Story
A Special message from Dr. Jane

Dr. Jane Bicks, DVM
HealthyPetNet Veterinarian Formulator

For years I’ve been working to persuade countless people to recognize one simple notion – that nutrition is the foundation of life. In my years at HealthyPetNet, I’ve done my utmost to formulate foods and treats that help to establish and maintain this important foundation. Our companion animals depend on us to provide much-needed proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and other crucial nutrients – to help them grow when they are young and to maintain health through their hopefully long adult years.

Many pet foods are made based upon formulas that, at least on paper, fulfill the generally accepted nutritional requirements, which are then labeled “complete” or “balanced diets”. As a veterinarian, my nutritional philosophy differs from that of most pet food manufacturers.

Over the years I’ve seen hundreds of undernourished puppies and kittens, whose ears, skin and intestinal tracts are in various stages of decline. I’ve also witnessed them respond positively to increased consumption of nutrients and whole foods, having the effect of improving their health and shoring up their immune systems. I’ve also seen far too many middle-aged cats and dogs on these diets pass general examinations but lack energy, have dull eyes, are disagreeable, experience urinary tract issues, suffer with skin and coat conditions. I know from these professional experiences that for a food to be truly nutritional, it must be formulated based upon different standards. These higher standards must take into account the actual physiology of dogs and cats in addition to accepted nutritional requirements.

Dogs and cats are complex organisms. At HealthyPetNet, we believe that a pet’s food must address all the many aspects of their bodies and chemistry's. That’s why we’ve included such a broad spectrum of nutrients – every ingredient in Life’s Abundance is selected to enhance specific parts of the body. The resulting balance of ingredients is combined in a very particular way, which becomes our holistic formula -- each ingredient working with the others to fulfill the needs of every dog and cat.

And believe me, there are many needs to fill! For example, some dogs have skin problems and others do not. It is heartbreaking to see a dog, or cat, scratch excessively and bite, further damaging their skin.

When formulating Life’s Abundance, I selected ingredients to support all of the important bodily structures and functions. However, I would like to touch on skin and coat health since biting and scratching are among the top reasons pet parents take their companion animals to the vet. Protein is crucial – especially for puppies and seniors – so I selected highly-digestible, superior-quality proteins, putting in exactly the amounts that both young and old require for optimal skin and coat health. We also added flax seed meal because it includes proteins that meats don’t have and antioxidants which the skin needs for optimal health. Not only that, but flax seed meal contains a nice mixture of B vitamins and oil. We added Omega-3 fatty acids (from fish oil), as numerous studies have shown it’s essential to skin health. As well as addressing the direct requirements of skin and coat, we included ingredients to help enhance the immune system, a must for the healthiest possible skin. Life’s Abundance has numerous vegetables because they contain a wide array of antioxidants. Special easily-absorbed minerals were also added because minerals work to improve the effectiveness of antioxidants (skin just loves zinc). And since one of the largest immune organs is located in the gut (GALT), several ingredients were selected to provide nourishment for this important immune organ.

I hope that you can see the importance of building a food based on the physiology of our precious companions. I truly believe that Life’s Abundance represents the ultimate holistic pet food, with all the ingredients necessary to help companion animals live long, healthy and happy lives.

For all of you already feeding Life’s Abundance, I thank you for being responsible pet parents, and for being agents of positive change in the lives of your companion animals.

Warmest wishes,
Dr. Jane Bicks
