Shih Tzu Grooming

The name Shih Tzu, translates to “mini lion,” given to its lion-like appearance.
These sturdy little dogs require a good daily grooming using a slicker brush, follow up by a wide and fine toothed comb. When kept in a long coat a topknot is usually tied to keep the hair out of the dog's eyes. Try getting some non latex bands that wound damage the hair like rubber bands can.  Many owners prefer to have them clipped short to make the coat easier and less time-consuming to care for in between grooms.  The ear canals do have hair that grows inside so this needs to be carefully plucked out and cleaned with a non alcohol ear cleaner.  The hair that grows around the eyes must be trimmed and eyes corners clean so discharge does not build up and become hard. Shih Tzus have sensitive eyes!  Nails should be trimmed and files often.
