EVENING PRIMROSE OIL (Oenothera biennis) - The oil is extracted from the seed of the evening primrose, a small yellow wildflower. Evening primrose oil has been used since the 1930s for eczema. It is high in gamma linolenic acid (GLA), an essential polyunsaturated fatty acid that promotes cardiovascular health (not to be confused with alpha-linolenic acid, which is one of the omega-3 fatty acids). It also contains omega-6 essential fatty acid. It is known to prevent hardening of the arteries, heart disease and high blood pressure, and aids in lowering cholesterol. It is helpful in the management of arthritis, rheumatism, certain skin disorders, and can relieve pain and inflammation. Studies have shown it can increase the release of sex hormones and thereby improve reproductive health.
