Cute Standard Poodle Pictures

I just wanted to share these two pictures of Bosco with you. He is one of the most gentlest dogs I have ever seen. Poodles have great personalities and are so loving.

Indoor games to play with your dog

Today here in northeast Ohio it has been cold, rainy and yes, I have even spotted a few snow flurries. My dogs get the raw end of the deal every fall. When the weather turns so do my outdoor activities. The poodles would love to run and play in the mud but me being a groomer try to avoid the extra work in cleaning them up before allowing them into the house. So I have put into words some games that are fun to teach your pets to keep them from becoming board.

1. Hold a small treat in one hand with your fist closed and extend both arms out and ask your dog if he can guess which hand you have the treat in. When he puts his nose on your hand that has the treat, bingo, he wins. Do this several times and he will think he just stared in a Los Vegas magical show.
2. Get a Kong ball with the hole in it to put treats in and watch him roll it around the room snacking as he goes.
3. Play hide and seek with a favorite toy. Teach your dog to sit and stay as you or a family member hides the toy somewhere. Ask your dog to go find the toy, to help him if he doesn't understand, start out putting the toy under a pillow or in a shoe close by and help him find it. It will not take long for your dog to learn that it's fun to play.
4. Dogs love to have a job, so teach him to bring things to you like the remote control or a newspaper. Always praise him and do it all over again. One thing I do with Bosco is when I am folding my dog grooming towels I place them on his back to transport to the grooming room. You may not want to put your clean towels or clothes on a dogs back, so maybe your old newspapers to carry to the recycle bin.
5. The ever so favorite catch the ball is fun to pass some time.
6. The cups game is a fun one to play, it starts with taking 3 or 4 plastic cups or butter type dishes and some treats. Begin by placing the cups face down and placing a treat under one of the cups making sure that your dog knows where it is. Ask your dog to find it and wait until he has given you a sign indicating the he knows where the treat is. Lift the cup and let your dog have the treat. Do this a few more times until he understands the game and then make it a challenge by moving or changing the cups around (like the shell game) before you ask them to find it.
7. Working on obedience skills makes for some fun as well. Dogs never get tired of leaning.
8. Teach your pet to balance a biscuit on his nose and hold it before eating it. This can be very fun for both you and your dog.
9. Learn to dance with your dog to music. Great workout for both of you.
10. Follow the leader is something that Pippin just does on his own. So I have make a game of it. He follows me around the house and when I stop he stops, then I back up and he backs up. We play this game for a while and then I tell him to go lay down.

Toy Poodle Grooming Before & After

This is Winston, he is a very small Toy Poodle. Poodles have dense, curly, non-shedding hair that grows continuously and requires regular grooming. The texture of the hair ranges from coarse and woolly to soft and wavy. Winston has a very woolly - soft coat thus making it very hard to brush if left in a longer coat. A well-groomed poodle will not only look his best, but regular grooming every 4 - 6 weeks helps prevent skin, coat, and other health problems that may occur. Grooming is just not taking a brush and fluffing up the hair. It is a way in keeping your pet healthy. Clipping toe nails is so vitally important for foot and leg health. Removal of dry, flaky, dead skin cells is necessary in maintaining a healthy coat. Cleaning debris away that sticks in the corner of the eyes is very important to ensure proper eye care and cleaning the ear canals by removing the hair that grows inside is a necessary part of poodle grooming. I used Isle Of Dogs styling products to give little Winston that award winning look. Isn't he handsome!

Shih Tzu before and after grooming for a short hair cut

This is Toby, he is a Shih Tzu. His owner loves to keep Toby short and manageable, which is great for a pet Shih Tzu. The sole purpose of the Shih Tzu (Chinese) is companionship and house pet. This breed should be alert, lively and friendly. They require minimal exercise, but his coat is high maintenance and needs daily brushing. The Shih Tzu should be groomed every 4 weeks if left in a longer coat or 5 - 8 weeks if done in a short style like Toby's. The products I like to use on Toby are:
Isle of Dogs No. 30 Detangle Formula Shampoo, Isle Strengthen - which gives conditioning, volume and hold along with Isle Thicken - that is a conditioner, volumizer and hold, both are from the Vanity Series.

For his haircut I use a 3 3/4 blade on my Andis clipped and hand scissor his legs, head and tail. He sure is a cutie.

Dogs playing in the autumn woods

Autumn is my favorite time of the year. October has never been sweeter than the warm temperatures we have been blessed with. Walking in the woods with my two standard poodles and my part-time dog ShuShu has been so much fun. The dogs love to run through the leaves and jump over the trees that have fallen. In the top picture, the sun was shining down through the tree tops illuminating ShuShu as she was trying to get Bosco to chase her. The picture of Pippin is of him doing what he loves best, jumping.

Staying active is what leads to a long healthy life, not only for me but for the dogs I love. All three the these dogs take NuVet Plus to help safe guard them against all the harmful organisms that are in the woods like standing water, animal feces, algae, fungus and harmful animals, reptiles and insects.

Hartz Mountian recalls dog food rawhide chips

NJ company recalls dog food chips October 17, 2008
SECAUCUS, N.J. - The Hartz Mountain Corporation has voluntarily recalled a specific lot of its Hartz chicken-basted rawhide chips for dogs due to concerns that one or more bags within the lot are potentially contaminated with Salmonella. The company announced the recall Friday, saying the two-pound plastic bags of chips with lot code JC23282, UPC number 3270096463 were distributed to a national retail customer it did not identify.Hartz said the normal testing it conducts through an independent outside laboratory did not detect the presence of Salmonella in any of its rawhide products, but sample testing conducted by another laboratory did indicate the presence of the bacteria in a single bag of the chicken-basted rawhide chips.Salmonella can cause serious infections in dogs and _ if there is cross-contamination caused by handling of the rawhide chips _ in people as well, especially children, the aged, and people with compromised immune systems.Hartz is investigating the difference in test results and the potential source of the problem. It said there have been no reports of any animals or humans becoming ill. Source: Newsday

Pomeranian Bichon Frise Mix Breed

Here's Milo, all grown up. He is a cross between a Pomeranian and a Bichon Frise. His coat is very soft so his mom brings him in for grooming about every 4 weeks. As you can see, I trim the hair on his body short, but leave the legs longer to give him that teddy bear look. Doesn't he look snuggable, just like a teddy bear!

Yorkshire Terrier * A tiny bundle of Love

Meet Ruby - She is such an adorable little girl. Being one of the smallest dog breeds in the world doesn't stop them from being bold and loud. They will bark if they sense an intruder nearby making them an ideal watch dog. They are energetic, adventurous, inquisitive and sometimes a bit stubborn. The Yorkshire Terrier is a sociable breed and they love their family. They are a very intelligent breed and learn quickly.
Yorkies do not shed, but they do require daily brushing. Their hair continually grows and needs to be groomed on a regular basis to prevent mats. Regular vet checkups are important to watch for common illnesses and specific health problems that affect this breed such as knee, eye and liver problems. To help insure that your little bundle of love will reach her expectant lifespan of 14-16 years, give Nuvet Plus supplements.

Halloween chocolate a No-no for your dog

With Halloween just around the corner, you will most likely have some form of chocolate in your house. We all have heard that chocolate can be lethal to your dog, but do you know why?

All chocolate products start with the cocoa tree. Theobromine is the ingredient that is used to make all chocolate – especially dark or baker's chocolate – which is toxic to dogs. This is a xanthine compound in the same family of caffeine, and theophylline.

A dogs metabolises theobromine very slowly so it can stay in your dog's bloodstream for many hours with a reaction similar to you drinking several cups of strong coffee. During that time it stimulates the central nervous system and affects the heart and kidneys.

A lethal dose of theobromine is between 100-150 mg/kg to cause a toxic reaction. There are variables to consider like the individual sensitivity, animal size and chocolate concentration.

Here is an example of chocolate types and the amounts of theobromine:
Milk chocolate contains 44 mg of theobromine per oz.
Semisweet chocolate contains 150mg/oz.
Baker's chocolate 390mg/oz.

Candies such as, 2 oz. of Baker's chocolate can cause great risk to an 15 lb. dog. Yet, 2 oz. of Milk chocolate usually will only cause digestive problems. Milk chocolate will often cause diarrhea 12-24 hours after ingestion. Try to get your pet to drink water to prevent dehydration.
Xanthines, which has the same effects as caffeine, affect the nervous system, cardiovascular system and peripheral nerves. It has a diuretic effect as well. Signs to watch for if your dog gets a hold of Halloween treats: hyper excitability, hyper irritability, increased heart rate, restlessness, increased urination, muscle tremors, vomiting or diarrhea.

If you suspect your pet has ingested chocolate contact your veterinarian immediately. They will be able to direct you to what action to take in determining the proper treatment for your pet.

Halloween is fun for the entire family including pets, just be watchful and give your pet the proper treats. Great one's to try are at

Business in the Pet Food Industry

I wanted to pass this note along to everyone that may be considering making some much needed money in today's economy. If you have a love for pet's this may very well be your calling. This is written by
Lester Thornhill Trilogy President & C.E.O. on behalf of the Trilogy home office and Life's Abundance pet food.
He writes:
"I am happy to say that September was a good month. Our Life’s Abundance Premium Canned Health Foods for Puppies and Adult Dogs made a good showing in the first month, and we received a lot of positive feedback from you and your customers. The canned dog foods open up a new market for you, and provide you with another powerful way to help you get your foot in the door. Our Ultralogix nutritional supplement sales also went well last month. We sold a lot of supplements and we paid out twice as much commissions on this product line than we did in August!I do want to point out something that I believe is very important during these uncertain economic times. This is a potential watershed moment for you in terms of recruiting. To me, it is similar to the flood of new customers we acquired during the pet food recall. You've all heard the news ... 759,000 jobs lost so far this year; many homes are in foreclosure and many more are on the verge of this terrible fate. Countless Americans cannot pay their bills and they are living on credit cards, which are quickly drying up. Nest eggs are shrinking with stocks, mutual funds and 401K's losing from 30% to 50% of their value in the last 12 months. This is a financial crisis that threatens the future of so many Americans. Retirees are hurting and they are looking to rejoin the workforce. People are searching for a lifeline. They are searching for a way to hold on to their homes. They don't want their dreams to slip away and they need a way out of this crisis. There is increasing desperation out there. It’s not just the people losing their houses, it’s everyone else who is wondering if they might be next. These are the people we can help. They are more open than they have ever been to finding ways to earn extra money. And our Trilogy opportunity is a solution to their problems. And most important, they won’t have to give up on their dreams. Our Trilogy business opportunity is unlike most of the network marketing opportunities out there today. It really is unique. First, there's no hype. It's not a fad. It's not a passing craze. And our pet food sales hold up really well in hard times.Unfortunately, it is all too common for other network marketing distributors to go from one opportunity to another. And years later, only to end up with no residual income to show for their hard work, so they start the cycle over again. That's not true network marketing. At Trilogy, we offer high-quality, consumable products that people really need. And our distributors receive real ongoing income year after year. We have a proven track record of over 10 years in business and hundreds of distributors that can tell you the only company that is still paying them consistently is Trilogy. This is why I urge you to take advantage of this moment. By helping others to earn an ongoing income, you can help secure your financial future and achieve your dreams. Now is the time to share our opportunity! In terms of Trilogy's finances, I want you to know that we don't rely on loans or lines of credit to pay commissions, so your checks are safe. And we contacted our bank and they are not in any danger, as they were never involved in the risky loans that caused other banks to stumble. It has been such a pleasure talking with and emailing so many of you over the course of the last month. I want to thank each one of you personally for the feedback. There are a few exciting things happening at the home office that we will be able to share with you over the next few weeks, so watch your inboxes!"
Helping you achieve your dreams,
Lester Thornhill

Now keep in mind that he was writing to Field Representatives and if this is something you want to be and do, please shout out an email to me at: jnspotts@sbcglobal.net or go to www.pipschoice.com or

Thank you & have a great day.

What dog supplement is the best?

The best reason for someone to give a product a try is that somebody recommended it to them.

In my grooming business I recommend products that I use and know.
My dogs take NuVet Plus. I like the way Nuvet makes them look and feel. They are healthy and have more energy than ever and that makes me very happy.

I would love for you to be a part of a "show and tell" segment I will be posting on. What I am looking for are people that have bought Nuvet Plus. I want to hear your stories, see some pictures of your pets and tell me and my other readers why you would recommend Nuvet to friends.

You can email your story and photo to: spottsdogcare
Be sure to type "show and tell" in the subject line.

If you are searching for the best dog supplement you have come to the right place. Simply go to www.nuvet.com/42299 to place your order. Remember to write to me with your story and come back here to read about how Nuvet has changed the lives the family pets.. It will be fun to see the pictures.
