Dogs with blindness

This is Dusty. I have been grooming Dusty for 10 years now, he was diagnosed as blind a few months ago. He still knows to turn and face me as I talk to him. The owners like him in a short clip especially around his eyes. They have a tendency to tear and get all sticky, which is very smelly and more importantly bad for his well being.
The people at NuVet Labs are finding that dogs that are given NuVet Plus supplements can help reverse the size of cataracts thus improve the eye sight. Is it ever to late to start a pet on supplements? I say not, if Dusty were to be on these supplements there's no telling how much he could benefit. Dogs can live to be in their 20's and be quite healthy at that.

Tasty Rewards * Dog Training Treats

Tasty Rewards from HealthyPetNet are wholesome nutritional training treats made from free-range, farm-raised chicken and venison.
They’re loaded with proteins, minerals, vitamins and essential fatty acids. And, like all of the foods and treats, you’ll find no added chemical preservatives or artificial coloring.
With Tasty Rewards Training Treats, discipline can be delicious!

Are you training a new puppy or just educating your old dog?
Good behavior should be rewarded, but often training treats are empty-calorie treats with no nutritive value and include undesirable ingredients. I strongly believe that you should only feed treats that can help to support overall health and these are one way you can give your pet the best, most healthiest treats and do some training at the same time.

Merry Christmas from Spotts Grooming

Merry Christmas to all.
My hope is that everyone have a blessed Christmas day filled with love.
This is the day to remember and reflex on how much God loves us. Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ — the most important event in human history (along with the rest of Jesus’ life). Even if people fail to acknowledge its meaning, that doesn’t change its significance.
Why is Christ’s birth so important? One reason is because of who he was: the divine son of God. To those who witnessed his birth, he probably looked like any other newborn baby — but in reality he was far more. He was God in human form — fully man, but also fully God. Only Jesus could say, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). Only Jesus could say, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30).
Do you want to know what God is like? Look at Jesus Christ, for he was God in human flesh.
But Christ’s birth was also important because of what he did. He came to show us God — but more than that, he came to open the way to God. We are separated from God because of sin — but Jesus came to take away our sins. He did this by becoming the final sacrifice for sin through his death on the cross.
Christmas for many people has become a secular holiday. Don’t let this happen to you. Instead, put Christ at the center of your Christmas this year — and at the center of your life.
This was taken from Billy Graham on "Keep true meaning of Christmas alive"

Bichon - The look of a Short Hair Cut

Bichons can be very matted when left long. This is a picture of Mia, her human mom likes to keep Mia's hair short all year long. She also likes the ears to show so I trim the hair underneath the ears so as to give it the appearance of being full and fluffy. The legs and body are shaved with a blade about an inch long. With a simple, short style such as Mia's, the Bichon can be short and still look marvelous.

Shih Tzu Grooming

This delightful little girl is Laci. Her tiny body, short legs and bright fuzzy face is just the cutest and reminds me of a stuff animal toy. For grooming , I start by giving her a bath in Premier Color Intensifying Shampoo by Eqyss. Premier lets the hair accept moisture from the air, which is what hair is supposed to do. It conditions and volumizes the coat while helping to reduce dry flaky skin. Next, I use Premier Conditioner Coat Conditioning Cream Rinse and Detangler. This product conditions rough, dry, brittle hair and adds in restoring the hair with natural emollients and smoothes hair cuticles to replenish each strand, leaving hair soft and tangle-free. I fluff dry her hair with a blow dryer and comb out any remaining tangles. I then use a comb attachment for the desired length and finishing with scissors to make a teddy bear like appearance.

Ethoxiquin in Pet Food

Ingredient Fish - Is there Ethoxiquin in this pet food?
There have been many news articles lately about pet food makers hiding the chemical preservative 'ethoxiquin' in their foods. This is due to the fact that much of the fish used in pet foods comes already pre-preserved with this chemical. So what about Life's Abundance you may ask? Does Life's Abundance food contain ethoxiquin since it uses fish meal in their products? To hear the answer, listen to this recorded interview with Dr. Jane Bicks. Scoll down on the right side on player.

Great Pyrenees

This is Emma a 5 year old Great Pyrenees. I use the FURminator shampoo and deshedding conditioner on her. Your pet's undercoat can become a dense mess of loose, dead hair that ends up on you and all around your house. The FURminator treatment was developed remove the undercoat hair quickly and easily. The all-natural deShedding Shampoo & deShedding Solution are great for promoting a healthy skin and coat on your pet. To groom Emma, I trim her pants and feathering's to shape her up, trim her nails including the two extra one's on her hind feet and that's it. There is not a whole lot of hair cutting on the Great Pyrenees.

Schnauzer Grooming

Here's Libby!
The Schnauzer's coat is most often wiry, however sometimes the dog may have a soft coat like Libby's. Frequent combing and brushing is necessary to keep the coat from becoming matted. On pet dogs the coat is usually clipped short on the upper body and left somewhat longer on the sides and legs. The classic Schnauzer head is what sets this breed apart so maintaining the appearance is what most owners want. Show dogs require only a light trimming and hand stripping instead of using a clipper with blade. This breed sheds little to no hair and is a good dog for allergy sufferers.
Grooming tools to use are as follows:
1. Clippers 2. Clipper blades 10# and 7F 3. Fine tooth face comb and a Steel comb 4. Scissors and Thinning shears 5. Slicker brush 6. Pin brush 7. Nail clippers and or file.
I use Isle of Dogs #30 shampoo and Isle of Dogs Hold on the brows and beard.

Bosco's Christmas Hair Cut

It was time to change the way Bosco was wearing his hair. What better time to give a new look than right before Christmas. He really likes to get groomed and with such a change as this, he prances around like Santa's reindeer, Prancer I think his name was. Anyway, Bosco looks and feels great for Christmas. My Christmas eve guests always enjoy the dogs. Pippin looks a bit left out so I think I will do a little color in Pippin's hair for the Holidays.

Beagle

Meet Layla, she is a wonderful little Beagle. Her owner rescued her at the local Human Society. Layla is the sweetest, gentlest Beagle I have ever seen. Dogs that are adopted from shelters seem to really appreciate their new found love in the people that take them home.

Peekapoo

This is ShuShu, she is a Peekapoo. This is not a purebred dog, the Peekapoo is a cross between the Pekingese and the Poodle. They can look like anything, more poodle or more peke or a definite cross of both breeds. These hybrids have become very popular in the past several years. Designer dog breeding is becoming big business and very trendy.

Grooming: High maintenance; requires regular clipping and daily brushing. These little dogs mat very easily so a short clip is favored by many owners. They should be groomed every 4 - 6 weeks. Wiping the corner of the eyes is very important to keep from becoming dirty that leads to harden wet hair that can cause eye problems.
Nail trimming should be done regularly for good feet health.
Ear cleaning consist of plucking the hair out that grows inside the canal and wiped out with a cleaning solution.
ShuShu takes NuVet Plus daily to keep her healthy.

Newborn Standard Poodle Pari Puppies

Standard Poodle newborns.

These adorable little guys are from the same breeder that my boy Bosco came from. Ellen takes great pride in the poodles that she has and raises. This puppy is a Tuxedo boy, he is all black on top and all white underneath. When it grows out it looks like he is wearing a Tuxedo! This is her first litter of AKC Parti Color puppies with AKC Champion solid lines behind them which took about 6 years to accomplish.
This puppy is very striking and is going to be a real show stopper.

Here is Chocolate Brown Parti boy. This little cutie is going to be a very handsome poodle when he grows up. The brown and white is a great combination.

To see more puppy pictures check out Ellen's website at JE Poodles
