Creative Cat Grooming * Pittsburgh Steelers Style

Cat grooming is becoming very popular and why not? Most people love to snuggle with their cats but some are allergic, or the cat hair is flying all over the place. But with grooming you can take an ordinary cat and turn it into an extraordinary cat.
Take this one for instance, what Pittsburgh Steeler fan wouldn't want to show off their team spirit with this cool cat? Here the kitty is transformed into one of the players. A little less hair and a great new look. The cats are not harmed in any way in doing this. Most will not mind at all. A clipper is used to shave off the longer fur and then some non-toxic, child safe Blo-pens are used to fill in the color.
Now that's a cool cat if I ever saw one.

New Doctor at HealthyPetNet

All of us with HealthyPetNet are greatly pleased to bring on-board our newest team member, Dr. Sarah Wooten, DVM. Dr. Sarah will help us educate pet owners about pet health as well as work with Dr. Jane on a number of other pet-related projects. With the addition of Dr. Sarah, Dr. Jane will be able to more fully dedicate her time and energy to formulating new products, researching advances in nutritional science and playing a stronger leadership role in the charitable efforts of the Dr. Jane’s HealthyPetNet Foundation.

Dr. Sarah – A Profile in Compassionate Service to Companion Animals

Sarah Wooten loves animals, great and small. From an early age, she felt a deep kinship with and profound love for all animals, thanks in part to growing up in a family that included dogs, cats, ducks, goats, horses … even peacocks! As a teenager and after conversations with a local veterinarian, Sarah realized that her calling in life was to work with animals and she set a course to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian. Later, armed with an undergraduate degree in Biology from Wheaton College, she entered the doctoral program at the prestigious UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated in 2002. Fresh from veterinary school, Dr. Sarah kicked-off her career as a lead veterinarian at a large veterinary clinic. Almost two years later, she moved into another leadership role as Team Leader/Veterinarian at a veterinary hospital. In 2007, she worked part-time at a shelter, where she managed wellness of shelter pets, performed sterilization surgeries, conducted monthly vaccine clinics and wrote shelter health protocols.

When we asked Dr. Sarah what she loved the most about practicing veterinary medicine, she said, “helping families”. She said, “Seeing the look on a face of a pet parent when you save their dear companion’s life is an amazing experience.” Dr. Sarah leads an active life in Colorado with her husband Aaron and their three children Riley, Aricin and Kael.

Groom Expo Friends * Teri DiMarino

Here is one of my all time favorite speakers Teri DiMarino. I was so blessed to have had a chance to sit in on her Brusher/ Bather Certificate Program where pet bathers-in-training, future groomers, and salon owners benefited from the day-long program with tips on equipment and products to make the groomer job easier. I have been grooming for 17 years and walked away with some very great tips.

Teri has been a salon owner for nearly thirty years and a mobile groomer for another five. Teri has written for all the industry publications including Barkleigh Productions when she took the position of Industry Consultant, Sales and Marketing. She also writes the business column and feature articles in Groomer To Groomer magazine (my favorite magazine.) She was the professional consultant for the Animal Planet reality show, Groomer Has It. Teri regularly lectures at trade shows and consults with pet styling businesses, specializing in teaching everyday grooming and bathing techniques, salon set-up, and time management efficiency. She is a Sanctioned Judge for many grooming competitions. She is one very classy lady.

Maltese Grooming

A Maltese is a wonderful little dog however, they do require daily combing and brushing to keep them looking great. In keeping a long coat, be careful not to damage the hair as it tends to be very soft. Start first with a Pin brush, gently go over the coat and if you find a knot you can pick it apart with your fingers. If it is to matted, you may need to use a mat splitter or scissors to cut through the mat. As always, it the coat is extremely matted and very dirty, shave it off and start over. That's the great thing about hair, it always grows back. Next keeping the eyes clean is a daily task to prevent staining, and clean the beard off after meal time for the same reason. Bathe or dry shampoo regularly, a good shampoo is key. I like Isle of Dogs. Clean out the ears with a good ear solution, and pull out hair growing down inside the ear canal, but be very careful not to go to deep. Most owners like the hair that is on the top of the head to be tied up in a topknot to keep it away from the eyes. Many pet owners choose to clip the hair short for easier maintenance. This little beauty does not shed making it good for people that have allergies.

Potty Park Indoor Dog Potty Save Money Here

Indoor potty places are all the rage these days and with the original Potty Park having your dog do his business inside is a snap.
Potty Park is great for condos & apartment, house training and new dog, senior or injured dogs, boats, cottages, & RV's, Pet industry professionals (like me) and animal loves such as yourself.

First a little info about Potty Park and how it works.

The concept of Potty Park is simple - bring a piece of your dogs natural outdoor environment to areas you would like them to be able to relieve themselves without issue.

With Potty Park, your dog will never feel uncomfortable again holding it in for hours at a time or creating accident spots on your floors. You'll love Potty Park too. I sure wish I had a Potty Park back when my daughter's dog was here.

Potty Park is made from antimicrobial HDP (high density polyethylene), which is an excellent manufacturing material for any food and human/animal related product as it is FDA, NSF, and USDA approved for direst human contact.

All components of the Potty Park unit have been specifically sourced for their animal friendly attributes and their antimicrobial resistance to bacteria, moisture absorption, acidity and odor.

Potty Park's unique and exclusive indoor/outdoor urine reservoir system makes Potty Park clean and easy to use. The original design and features have been created with both humans and dogs in mind.

Get rid of those unsightly and costly pee pads and forget about carpet cleaning solutions that don't work. Try one out and see why I think this is the best solution to problem dogs, puppies, and hard to get outside dogs.

NuVet Plus Free Pet Tag Offer

NuVet Labs: Our scientists, veterinarians and formulators began with the premise that most pet diets are lacking the proper amounts of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. There are important nutrients that animals once received when they were living in a more primitive environment that are not available in the modern diet. Commercial pet foods contain numerous by-products that can make them poisonous, toxic and incapable of reducing the devastating effects of unstable oxygen molecules, also known as "free radicals." Free radicals have been implicated in more than fifty health problems in humans and animals including various forms of cancer, heart disease, arthritis, cataracts and premature aging.

Dog Food Analysis Part 2

Dog Food Analysis Website Comments Brown rice is a good quality grain, but potato product is filler. We are also concerned to see chicken fat as the fourth ingredient in the food. Research at Purdue University has shown a fat in the top four ingredients of dry dog food to be a factor that increases the risk of bloat in large breed dogs. Smaller breeds are untested.

HealthyPetNet findings Potato product is a filler? First, what is your definition of filler? Second, what is your definition (or preconceived idea) of potato product? Potato Product is the legal term that is mandated by AAFCO (American Association of Feed Control Officials). Although it may sound bad, it is the only term you can use if you care to abide by the law. Many pet food create their own terminology and in doing so, they fall out of compliance with AAFCO. Of course, the penalties are small so it happens quite frequently. This non-compliance makes the pet food maker the final authority on what is in their pet food. There is no way to check with another authority. In other words, if I choose to say 'Fresh Idaho Potato's' (instead of the AAFCO term 'Potato Product'), what does that really mean? The pet food maker now becomes the final authority and defines it any way they see fit. HealthyPetNet is interested in being transparent and in being legal. By the way, even though we have spent much time explaining Potato Product, we no longer use it in our formula. This was done almost 1 year ago (along with some other changes) but the analysis website hasn't updated it's information to reflect this. Incidentally, Potato product was removed to help eliminate this type of argument. However, it was used successfully for 9 years prior without any problems. I am not aware of the Purdue study which states that using fat in the first 4 ingredients causes bloat in large breeds. I do know, however, that many large breed dog breeders are using Life's Abundance dog food with fantastic results. Again, this goes back to ethics. If this were a real problem, an ethical company would change it's formula to keep up with the science, including us. http://www.pipschoice.com/

Potty Park The Bathroom for Dogs

What is Potty Park all About?
Potty Park is an indoor place for your dog to relieve himself. All to often I hear about the "bad dog" going pee or poo in the house. Well, I for one, rather have my dogs go to the potty outside. But if you have a hard time getting your pet outside, if you work all day, if you live in an apartment and so on, Potty Park is for you. Ask yourself these questions:

Is Potty Park™ right for me & my dog?
Do you live in a condominium or apartment?
Are you the owner of a new puppy?
Do you have a senior or injured dog?
Is it hard to provide your dog with late night & early morning walks?
Do you own a boat, cottage or R.V.?
Do you enjoy traveling with your dog(s)?
Do you wish to have an indoor area for pets during the day while you are out of the home?
Are you a pet industry professional such as a dog care provider, breeder or veterinarian?
Are you a home owner who would like a designated area outside for their dogs to toilet, thereby preserving lawns, gardens, swimming pool proximity's and children’s play areas.
Do you live in extreme weather environments that limit or prohibit dog walks?
Do you live within close proximity to predator(s) and animals such as birds of prey, snakes, spiders, alligators, wolves, cougars, bears, raccoons, etc.
Do you want the very best for your four-legged companion and would hate to think of them being in discomfort?

If you find yourself saying yes to any of these questions, chances are you will benefit by ordering your very own Potty Park. I can help you save some cash too. Use this code OHSGC09 and save.
